One of Top 5 Manufacturer of Hydraulic Cylinder

A hydraulic cylinder is a mechanical actuator giving force in one direction only. The hydraulic fluid in a Hydraulic cylinder is basically oil.

The main parts: Barrel, piston and piston rod. The cap and the gland are the two ends of a hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic pump delivers the required oil or fluid which is compressed in the cylinder while working, to the hydraulic cylinder to move the piston back and forth.

Parts of a Hydraulic Cylinder:

• Cylinder Barrel: A seamless tube of 4-16 micro inch, this holds the liquid pressure intact.

• Cylinder Base Cap: A static seal or o-ring is used to connect the cap and barrel except in case of welded varieties.

• Cylinder head: This is connected to the main body by threading, bolts, or tie rod. The cylinder like the base cap encloses the hydraulic liquid pressure.

• Piston: the pressure zones are separated by the piston. The difference in pressure on two sides of the piston makes it extend or retract as the need may be.

• Piston rod: Chrome plated, cold rolled steel rod bridges the hydraulic actuator to the machine component.

• Seal gland: this prevents the pressurized oil from seeping out between the rod and the head.

• Seals: These are manufactured as per the cylinder working pressure, speed, operating temperature, working medium and the type of application.

 Hydraulic Cylinder Designs:

• Tie Rod Cylinder: Use high tensile strength steel rods to hold the two end caps to the cylinder barrel. They are used in factory locations.

The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA), has set down the standard dimensions of Hydraulic Tie Rod Cylinders, which the manufacturers have to adhere to.

• Welded Body Cylinder: Barrel is welded directly to the end caps. The ports get welded to the barrel.

Repairing Hydraulic Cylinders:

It is common to dissemble and then built the whole cylinder again, while repairing a Hydraulic cylinder. The cylinder ports are opened and all hydraulic liquid is drained away. Bolts are unscrewed to get the covers off. The piston can be removed by loosening the input valves. All these dissembling have to be done outside in an open space. The assembling of parts has to be done in reverse order. It requires expert hands to reconstruct the hydraulic cylinder.
